Good news for those of us who belong to Red Sox Nation. Last month the Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the second time in fours years. They also won in 2004, having not won since 1918. This is similar to the average local bus. You don’t see one for ages and then two come along right after each other. The Red Sox appear to be good at the start of a century, having won 5 World Series between 1903 and 1918 and then none for the rest of the 20th century.
The World Series was also a triumph for cancer survivors. Both the MVP of the Series, Mike Lowell, and the winning pitcher in the clinching game, Jon Lester, have beaten the disease.

The Red Sox’s closing pitcher Jonathan Papelbon developed his skill with a celebratory dance. And a google search for “Papelbon dance” produced almost as many hits as either “Papelbon closer” or “Papelbon saves”. I hope he keeps up his standards in his day job next season.

Firstly thank you and congratulations for the outstanding statistics you supply the commentators with during the test matches (sometimes it almost makes their incessant babbling bearable).
I am not certain if you have read the book SUPER CRUNCHERS by Ian Ayres. I believe it is right up your alley, it is about "Super Crunchers are the pioneers who think by numbers and find patterns in human behaviour and predict the future - with staggering results.
Statistically I believe your blog will be a success IF people can find it! A word of suggestion... register a simple URL and link it to this site to make it easy to find.

Talking of busses - Sussex hve won Englands cricket County Championship three times in five years having never won it before - in 163 (I think) years.
Thanks Roger. Yes, Sussex have won three in five years.
Interestingly, Sussex also had a case of two busses arriving at the same time, when the brothers Mike and Tony Buss appeared for them in the 1960s and 1970s.
